Hi, I installed DotNetNuke to an XP professional machine with VisualStudio 2008 and SQL Express.

After I copied the files to the folder c:\DotNetNuke, I couldn't find the ASPNET user account to add to the security tab.  So I temporary added Everyone full control to this directory until I figure out what user the ASP.NET is running under.

Then I tried to launch DotNetNuke from the browser and I am getting

System.Web.Hosting.HostingEnvironmentException: Failed to access IIS metabase.

I am also having trouble with the search function of this forum, it keeps timing out, so I don't know if there is already a solution to my problems.

Try these permissions (also make sure it is not read only):

Administrators FC
System FC
Network Service FC
Users RX
Everyone R

See if that helps.

There needs to be a local ASP.Net account (not a domain account!), or.Net framework is not properly installed (either reinstall .Net or re-register asp.net using regiis).

I tried to reinstall .Net Framework 2.0, still didn't fix it  Ran regiis and got the ASPNET user.  Gave the user full control of the DotNetNuke folder and it's working now.

Thanks all.
