So to try and setup a trusted relationship between my web server and another network resource I changed the .NET worker process so that it runs under a domain ID.   I did change the permissions on the web server for the root web directory, temp, and .NET directorys so that the domain ID has the same access as Network Service.

As soon as I did this I lost the AD auto logon!  Is there some specific requirement for this to work?

I haven't seen that before Simon but then I've always just used impersonation in the web.config to run as a different user. Can users still manually login?

Only if impersonation is enabled.  If it's not enabled no one can access the site.

I have posted a question in the Configure It forum concerning changing the Network Service account.  Maybe I missed something?
Have you ever run your app pool with another ID?  I am just trying to get DMX to work with a network share and this is a requirement.

Dont forget that the new credentials have to have local admin access for auto sign in to work (in some cases).

I had a similar issue recently.

Marcus, interesting read (your IIS7/2008 issues).  I will try the impersonation with the generic account in the admin group.

On a side note I would love to hear from the folks at PowerDNN.  Their policy is that all DNN instances run under a domain account in the app pool.
But I wonder if their company uses AD authentication also?
