I would like to get a traffic summary (in megabyes per portal) for all the portals I have for a time period I specify. What's the best way to go about doing this?

To get a true picture of this, you will need to go to your IIS logs, as that is the only place where bandwidth for images, etc would be accounted for.

You will need to ensure that the resposne size column is included in your IIS log configuration though for the information to be available.

AFAIK DNN sitelog should contain same information as IIS log, but per portal. if you store it in database, you should be able to create proper sprocs to get your data.

From the standpoint of a host, I want a single aggregate report of how much traffic each portal is using. I think log analyzers treat the log file as a log for a single site/domainname. I am not sure if there are log anaylzers which can analyze per host header.

I don't want to log to a database because it will slow down the machine as there will be an insert for every request for every portal which can be too much.

I am thinking of using Microsoft's Log Parser utility where you can use an SQL like syntax to query the log file but I am not sure if it's sophisticated enough to give me the data I want. Another option is to import the log into the database and query it using SQL.

If anyone has a good solution, let me know. Thanks.

If you log it, it can be analyzed.

DNN logs to a database.  :)

Log Parser is a great option, see the LOg Parser forums at www.iis.net.
