please ensure that you are copying the install files to the webserver and not using vs.net's deploy process - the deployment process is for precompiled websites, and DotNetNuke does not support precompilation (we use a subtlely different version of static resourcing to asp.net and therefore the file(s) are not copied leading to missing text i.e. what you see in your graphic)

Hi Cathal, and thanks for the reply,

I had the problem before VS2008 was even introduced into the problem. I installed it so maybe I could trace down where the problem was. Having never worked on a web application project of this magnitude I have to admit I'm a little lost. One thing I did notice though is when I put a break in the installwizard.aspx.vb page where the labels get populated and step though the code, when I use the internal vs2008 web server these get populated with the correct information from the installwizard resource. When I use IIS7 they don't and remain empty strings.

Hi Chris,

I was using the DefaultApplicationPoolIdentity on the Win7 box. I changed it to use Network Service and still have the same result. But of course as you bang your head against the wall new things arise and I am starting to think this may be more of a domain issue. I have 6 computers that I "play" with and installed Windows Small Business Server 2008 for a domain controller, another box is Server 2008 Standard that is just a member of the domain but has SQL Server 2008 Standard installed, I also have a Vista box, Win7 box, and an XP box. I have tried installing DNN on all but the domain controller and have had the same results. Well last night I installed Vista on the one computer not in the domain ( I normally have Linux on this one) and installed DNN and I got the correct install screen (auto was disabled because I didn't set up the database). So my next step is to take one of the computers that I am currently having problems with and reinstall the operating system and install DNN without joining the domain to see if that is what might be causing it. I will post back my results, especially if it don't work.

If anyone knows if SBS2008 preconfigured restrictions have anything to do with this please let me know.

Thanks,

Marty

When you setup the permissions on your folder, did you use the LOCAL network service account, or the DOMAIN network service account?

I used the local accounts. As per the DNN installation video I setup the local Network Service account to have read, modify permissions and the local IUSR_Box4 account to have read permissions. Not sure where the IUSR account plays into it but it was suggested in the video and of course used in earlier versions of IIS so I did it.

OK I did a complete reinstallation of Win7 ultimate and DNN community 5.1.4 on a completely different network. I sitll have the same problem. I guess this rules out any restrictions that the domain may be putting on the operating system. I am suprised no one has seen this problem when I can reproduce it on 4 machines. What really confuses me is the one box that works! Unfortunately I need to put the original harddrive back in that machine as it has its own purpose.

Any other ideas to shed light on this is welcome! Willing to try just about anything at this point.

Marty
