Hi,

I've been using DNN for over 2 years now and just recently I have been experiencing some navigation issues on SOME of the websites i have built. I have tried to get some opinions on this and am still a bit dumbfounded as to why what is happening, is happening, and why it is happenign on only SOME of the websites i have built. Basically, what happens is on only SOME of my websites, and on ONLY one or two of the pages of the site, the navigation goes all funny and doesnt display properly. The only way i can properly explain  and show this is by uplaodign pics here - how do i do that on this forum?

The easiest way to show the pics is to host them somewhere else, and then use HTML here to show the pics.  You would also use a service like TwitPic, or YFrog to post the pic and then just post the URL to the pic.

That being said, you should also post some other useful information, such as the version of the DNN sites.

Hi,

Thanks. I have uploaded the images. Now back to my navigation issues.

First website: www.ansars-internet-marketing.co.uk Click here to view the normal site.

Sometimes, when you click on the Market your business online page, it looks like this: http://www.chocolatetimes.co.uk/nav/AIM%20marketing%20your%20business.JPG

Sometimes, when you click on the Onsite Optimisation page, it looks like this: http://www.chocolatetimes.co.uk/nav/AIM%20website%20optimisation.JPG

Second website: www.gbtraining.com Click here to view the normal site.

Sometimes, when you click on the blog and sales pages, it looks like these:

http://www.chocolatetimes.co.uk/nav/gbt%20blog.JPG

http://www.chocolatetimes.co.uk/nav/GBT%20Sales%20Page.JPG

Third website: www.gatewayschool-bucks.co.uk Click here to view the normal site

Soemtimes, when you click on the Homework and Extracurricular pages, it looks liek these:

http://www.chocolatetimes.co.uk/nav/GS%20Extra%20Curicular.JPG

http://www.chocolatetimes.co.uk/nav/GS%20homework.JPG

Fourth website: www.thepasolution.co.uk

Soemtimes, the entire nav disappears and it looks like this: http://www.chocolatetimes.co.uk/nav/TPAS%20Services.JPG

A first opinion said that it was due to the Pageblaster module being used. Firstly, pageblaster is only being used on 2 of the above sites - the Ansars and Gateway sites. So why is it affecting the other? Except if it has got somethign todo with pageblaster beign on the same server as the other sites and it affects a site irrespective of whetehr it is actually beign used on teh site or not. All our DNN sites are set up on one DNN Shared instance.

A second opinion stated the follwoing:

I definitely see a caching and menu issue here. But he issue seems to disappear when I am logged in as admin. Once logged out the problem disappears, until my cache has cleared. Then if I login as admin, go to the page, all is normal. Then log out and the menu for that affected page seems to work. Why it seems to work on some menu’s and not on others and on some websites as opposed to not on others is a bit of a mystery, but the explanation below might help. This might well be a PageBlaster issues, as it does work with page caching.

I think the big mystery is why it is only happenign on SOME of the sites on our instance, and not the others (as we do have about 5 more sites that are totally unaffected), and also, why this issue only happens sometimes and not on ALL occasions when the pages are visited.

If someone could have a look and try and figure out why thsi is happening, your help would be utmost appreciated.

The version of DNN beign used is 4.08.01 - I have just emailed my hosts to upgrade to the latest version.

Many thanks.

P.s. if host login access is required for any of the sites, please email me directly for this at rowena@orange-peel.co.za

I don't have a direct answer to any of your questions, but I DO dimly recall somewhere hearing that logging in as ADMIN automatically switches of caching.  Maybe someone else can be more precise about how that works.
