Hello

I am using the version 3.1.9 but I am having a few issues with downloading and uploading (fairly fundamental ;)
I uploaded a 1.4 mg video file and it seemed to upload fine (I checked the size of the file).

When I navigate to it (as admin or a user, using FF or IE)- and try to download it, it downloads as a 0kb file (filename appears), and I get the following message in my error log:

AssemblyVersion: 03.02.00
Method: System.Web.HttpCookieCollection.Remove
FileName:
FileLineNumber: 0
FileColumnNumber: 0
PortalID: 0
UserID: 1
UserName: rod
ActiveTabID: 420
AbsoluteURL: /DesktopModules/Repository/Downloader.aspx
ExceptionGUID: 81d01fc2-a37e-4885-a0a2-65e839acfe54
DefaultDataProvider: DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider, DotNetNuke.SqlDataProvider
InnerException: Unhandled Error:
Message: System.Exception: Unhandled Error: ---> System.Web.HttpException: Server cannot modify cookies after HTTP headers have been sent. at System.Web.HttpCookieCollection.Remove(String name) at Microsoft.ScalableHosting.Security.Roles.DeleteCookie() at Microsoft.ScalableHosting.Security.RoleManagerModule.OnLeave(Object source, EventArgs eventArgs) at System.Web.SyncEventExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication+IExecutionStep.Execute() at System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---
StackTrace:

Any clues please? I'll post the Upload error separately. Thanks

That error is something that has snuck into the .09 release that we can't explain. At no time does the code remove any cookies. The really odd thing is that it isn't consistent either. I've got two separate DNN installs on my server. One for a fairly large site that I host and one for my personal and family sites. Both installs get a decent number of visits and repository downloads but only one portal throws that error. Which makes debugging for Steve a real pain in the rear. Anyways, I did some searching on the ASP.NET forums and found that if you changed cacheRolesInCookie="true" to "false" in your web.config that the error went away. From what I can see there have been no adverse effects to it and Steve was going to check with the Core team about any repercussions but I haven't heard yet. So make the change at your own risk.

As for the 0kb File size, I'm not sure if it's related or not to the error. I know Nina was having the same problem and that Steve was working with her on it but I don't know if the problem was solved or not.

Thanks Mike

WRT the 0k file I would imagine it creates and opens the file for writing (hence appearance and 0k) and then when it starts streaming the data it hits the cookie error and stops, so you are left with the 0k file.

I'll try your change (at my own risk ;) - it would be good if you could report back on the findings as to whether or not that does.

Also - on the sites that work - are you using HTTP compression (I am - the Blowery module)

RE: Blowery compression.... I thought you might be on to something as I knew I had it running on the site that was having problems but couldn't remember if I set it up on the other one. I just remoted into the webserver and, alas, I'm running it on both. I'll take my laptop home with me tonight with the intent of running WinMerge to the two web.configs just to make sure they're both setup the exact same way.

I am not sure wether this is the answer to your problem or not, however I had the 0k problem when using blowery compression.

the problem was solved by excluding octet-stream, and zip files in blowery compression web.config section.
