I did some searching on the ASP.NET forums and found that if you changed cacheRolesInCookie="true" to "false" in your web.config that the error went away. From what I can see there have been no adverse effects to it and Steve was going to check with the Core team about any repercussions but I haven't heard yet. So make the change at your own risk.

I did find one adverse effect and that is that persistent login no longer seemed to work if you set it to false (not that that fixed the problem anyway ;)

Any other ideas?

Rodney,
I'm not positive but it appears that this is not a Repository problem at all. It's possible that it's a DotNetNuke issue. There are a number of posts in other forums that are reporting issues of users getting logged out. We talked about it for some time last night in the core team chat and the theory is that the authorization cookie is being deleted by some dnn process. It sounds very similar to the cookie errors we're seeing in the Repository, where the authorizaton cookie just 'disappears' and then when I attempt to redirect back to the page you came from after downloading, dnn can't figure out who you are since the cookie is gone.

Exactly what version of DNN are you running? from your first post, it looks like 3.2.0 .. is that right?

Here's a link to the thread on cookie problems, looks like they started appearing in 3.2.0, which might be why I can't ever seem to reproduce this .. I'm running 3.1.1.  I will be upgrading to 3.2.2 later today to see if I can experience the issue

Like I said, I'm not 100% sure it's the same issue, but it very well might be. Also the thread seems to suggest that compression might be a contributor to the problem.

Steve, I've been running the latest production version on my servers and have the same compression settings on both installs. You might remember me mentioning in an email that I was the cookie problem on one install but not on the other which was really confusing. I'll check the schedules on the sites this evening if I get the chance (I'm on course this week and next and getting a ton of homework) and see if there are any differences that might point to what you've posted in the last couple of threads and in the link you posted.

Hi Steve - I am running 3.2.0. WRT to the cookie - I beleive it only started not remembering who I was (after closing the session) - when I tried Mike's Cache Roles in Cookie web.config change - which didn't help THIS problem either.

I'll have another dig around but thanks for all the replies! (as mentioned, this bug renders the repository unusable unfortunately, but I definitely want to use the Repository core module!
