Hello,

I have been experiencing a quite baffling problem with one of my DNN installs. Both of them are 04.09.03 and both are hosted with the same provider. About 4 months ago we had the provider switch our development install to production and vice versa. Ever since then when attempting to setup a local host mirror of the live server it redirects from the local host address (localhost/site) to the live version of the website.  This never occurred before the server move as I setup local copies on numerous occasions.

Doing a google search is flooded with this problem but they are all pointing to a portal alias issue (leaving the live address in the dbo.PortalAlias table) but in this case the only portal alias is the local host one. I am able to setup a local host install that does not redirect with the development site every time.

Is there anywhere else in the DNN files/Database that could be causing this redirect to occur? Or any other ideas what may be causing this?

Thank you in advance for any advice you can provide.

<p>&#160;Is it possible that your two environments, staging, and production are both pointing to the same database, and NOT at the staging database you think you're using?</p>

Thank you for the quick reply!

We have two seperate installs with our host (Crystal Tech). I got a warm flush when I read your post thinking that you were onto something that I would have never thought of.

I logged in and double checked and the two installs have two serperate database servers and the web.configs also point to different servers. SQLB17 and SQLB23....I am not 100% but wouldn't that rule out the possiblility of them someone accessing the same db?

Thanks again,

Yeah that would pretty much rule it out, but the other thought is did you double check BOTH the connection strings in each web.config file? There are generally two per file.

The other thing to check is to maybe disable one of the sites (rename the web.config) and see if the site errors out. If it doesn't, and it still loads, then you likely have IIS pointing to the wrong site still?

Thanks again for your continued assistance.

I started fresh this morning with a new files/db backup from the live site and created a new local host install. It is still producing the redirect.  Just to double check my setup, I also created a new local host install of the development site which did not redirect.

I renamed the web.config and the site errored out (Server Error in Application). Which actually makes sense. I also tried adding an index.html file to the root which still caused the redirect to the live site (  http://library.loudoun.gov ) . But adding an app_offline.htm file to the root of the site served the content of the htm file to the browser that resolved to the localhost address I specified while setting up the IIS.

Any other suggestion? I never had a problem creating the local host version of my sites until our webhost moved our servers, but it seems very unlikely that could be the cause.  I pasted the important part of my web.config below (with ***** for usernames and passwords)

  <connectionStrings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express -->
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress; Initial Catalog=*****;User ID=*****;Password=*****;" />
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=*****;Initial Catalog=*****;User ID=*****;Password=*****" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> -->
  </connectionStrings>
  <appSettings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules   -->
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=.\SQLExpress; Initial Catalog=****;User ID=*****;Password=*****;" />
