I have one very old, but large installation of DNN still on version 2.1.2.... yes you did read that right, DNN2.    It had been a very good site for many years, with a load of old custom modules.  Therefore, it never was upgradable to DNN3 etc.

I would like to move this site to a new server (Win Server 2008, and hopefully use SQL Server 2008 Express instead of having to install SQL Server 2000.).

My question is with the web config connection string  (database provider???).    Does anyone remember if this old version can connect with Express?   If so, can anyone give tips on how this might be done?    Web config only or other, more complex work?  (I am no database connections expert).

I fear I may need to stay with SQL Server 2000 on this site, but I thought I would ask..

Thank you!

MSSQL Server can run the db in a compatiblity mode if there are any issues, and when you import or restore the 2000 db to 2008, it will probably set it to 80. I'm pretty sure this aspect won't cause you any trouble. You'll probably have two connection strings in your web.config and you shuold keep them both in place.

Someone else here might know more.
