I'm fairly new to DNN so forgive me if this has been asked before but I havn't been able to find the answer I need by searching...

I have just set up a new DotNetNuke Community 05.01.04 installation which went fine until I tried creating two child portals. The portals seem to be created ok. The numbered folders under dnnroot/portals get created and the folders with the names of the new child portals get created. The problem comes when I click the link to go to my new portal(s). The link goes to http://localhost/nayland  where I get a internal server error (500). But if I manually type the address as http://localhost/default.aspx?alias=localhost/nayland the portal seems to be working fine.

I using a windows 2008 server SP2, IIS 7, and both mozilla FF3 and IE7.

I suspect there is some security setting somewhere that is stopping this from working correctly but have no idea where to look. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I assume, the subfolder with child portla name and redirecting default.aspx has not properly been created, maybe due to missing file system permission for the ASP.Net account.

please check, whether there is subfolder with default.aspx and check its content.

Thanks for the reply, but as I stated in the original post, the folders are created. They have the default.aspx page in them and the permissions for ASP.net account has been inherited with full control. It seems something is simply stopping the redirect from working.
