Hi

I can run DotNetNuke fine when using VS2005 internal proxy server (file based), but running on IIS 6/Windows XP Pro/virtual directory I get the below error message. This error message is weird because the database connects perfectly when using the internal proxy server.

Any ideas?

Many thanks

Alex

First, The error is stating it cannot connect to the database server, check your web.config file connection string.

Second, (as this is not a concern) WinXP Pro uses IIS 5.1 (FYI)...not IIS 6.

Thanks CJS

The thing is though it can connect to the database using VS2005 file proxy server, using the same web.config, same files, everything. It works perfectly well. Using IIS5.1 (sorry I just assumed it was 6!) it comes up with the error message. Surely the connection string is the same in both instances?... Weird....

Thanks

Alex

Do you use windows identification for connection to your sql server or mixed mode ? If you use windows identification then running under vs 2005 your account (where vs is started with) will be used to connect to the database When running under IIS in combination with windows 2003 server the user NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE must be added to the sql server (be sure that this user also has write rights to the website directory)

Looking at the error message I think that this is maybe the case

Benny

ps if you use windows xp then you must add the user : {Server}\ASPNET User Account,

Thanks Benlar very helpful.. I'm sure this is the issue. The problem here is that I'm not running on a domain and all the server software is on the PC (localhost), inc SQL Server. It's windows XP Pro

Here is what I've done

Under SQL Management Studio/Security added {Server}/ASPNET. Gave it a SYSADMIN Role.

Added to the DotNetNuke database a user called ASPNET with dbo_owner rights. A new user for this database has been created and it uses login NT {Server}/ASPNET. Again dbo_owner rights.

As far as the permissions for IIS/website directory is concerned I can't seem to set them. There is no security tab in the properties section when using windows explorer (I'm not on a domain, wish I was!). With IIS I'm totally lost, Authentication is anonymous, using intigrated windows authentication. Directory tab has been set as stated in the documentation. ASP.NET is set as version 2.0. I don't see how I add the ASPNET service here.

I'm still receiving the same database connection error.

Help!!

Cheers :)

Alex
