Hi All,

I'm new to a DNN. And some details first: Standalone WinXP, SQL 2005, VS 2008 .NET 3.5, DNN 5.1.4.

I followed instructions and installed "Install" package into C:\DotNetNuke (default). Set permissions as required. Changed Web.config to point to my SQL Server.

When I open the site from browser, I can see default page, but cannot go anywhere else - Login, Register buttons (links) don't get me anywhere, I'm still on the same page.

When I open the site from Visual Studio and run it - everything works perfectly - I can log in, I can see the menus and options etc...

So my questions are:

1) Does DNN must be run from within VS?

2) If this is self-sufficient application what else I can do to make it work?

Please respond, I have to come up with demo app by Nov 06

First, have you read the documentation?  Have you looked at any of the log files?  Have you checked your browser settings and cache?

1) No, DNN does not need to run from within VS.

2)  I had a similar problem and it was the system.web.extensions.dll in the bin directory.  I was in version 4.9.4 at the time, but I removed that dll and things worked great for me.  There's a bunch of posts about it in google and the forums here.  Anyway, give that a shot and it might do the trick.  Just hope you don't need to use that dll and you're good to go ;)
