Hi all

I'm connected with an organization who has an online magazine. It's currently running on old, customized version of Joomla. We're looking at giving it a complete overhaul next year which might mean moving to a different CMS. I'm quite a DNN fan and .NET having written several complex DNN modules but I have doubts on whether it would really be a good fit for this site. If we change then it's looking like a tossup between DNN (probably professional) and Drupal.

We have thousands of articles in various categories. I don't think "out of the box" DNN would come close to being usable for this. If each article is a page in DNN and top level pages are "categories" then I think that would become unmanageable rather quickly. Obviously we'd need to buy or build some sort of publishing module.  I'd appreciate any comments or pointers to suitable modules or reports of experiences. I haven't seen what the professional edition really gives us in terms of publishing.

Different subject but I must say I'm a little disappointed that I can't see prices of the professional and elite editions without filling in a form.

Thanks

Hi Ross,

You can check out digArticle for managing your articles.  We stress tested with 18,000+ articles and it performed great.  It's got lots of great feaures like Article Voting and Threaded Comments, full Moderation.  You can download a demo and check it out.

Thanks,

Mike

also have a look at Engage software Publish module and the Ventrain Articles one (though this might need some customization).

You might want to also look at some of the custom menus there are a few 'mega menus' that might fit what you are looking for

You can't go wrong with Ventrian or Dignuke's modules. I'm pretty sure there aren't any features in the Professional or Elite versions that are required, unless you need support.

Engage Publish is right in line for digital magazines, though more digital publishers are opting for duplicating the print version through Adobe's software or customized interfaces.  Dig and Ventrian might be a little light for a magazine, but still quite possible.
