open database, e.g. in SQL Server Management Studio, and add the new Address as additional record into PortalAlias table (for portal 0 by default).

I may have the same problem. I have DNN v5.5.1. I have isntalled it on my local machine to works fine, I have only one portal with portalID=1, and one portal alias entry with foreign portalID=1 also.

Now I try to migrate this portal on my beta server, and DNN try to add a portal alias for the PortalID=0 which doesn't exist in my portal table: exec dbo.AddPortalAlias @PortalID=0,@HTTPAlias=N'advanceweb.hypertextmonkey.com',@CreatedByUserID=-1 (from SQL Server profiler).

So what's the point here !

you need to add the portal alias with new domain address manually yourself, either via UI prior to the move (in Host :: Portals) or directly in the database, table PortalAlias.
