I have 2 intranet portals running in 1 DNN installation. We use the Ad Authentication Provider and that works fine for most of our visitors. We don't get a login form, we have set the Integrated Windows Authentication in IIS. So what happens for a large group of users that they can 't login anymore. They get an error when they want to go to the home page :

Permission denied
You don't have permissions to view this page

When the users delete the authentication cookie and login again, they are logging in succesfully.
When the users go the the other intranet (they have no permission there) and go back to the intranet site they want to see, they are logging in succesfully.

I can live with the solution to use no cookie, but I don't know how to do this.

Do you can advise me in this?

Edwin, can you give me your server specs, DNN version, and what version of the AD provider you're using? Are you running Integrated Windows Authentication on the whole site or just on WindowsSignin.aspx?

Mike, the specs are:

  • MS Server 2003,
  • Standard X64 Edition, SP2,  Intel Xeon 2,66 GHZ, 2GB RAM
  • DNN Version :  5.1.4
  • Authentication provider version : 5.0.2.
  • Integrated Windows Authentication on the whole site

I think it's because you have the Integrated Windows Authentication running on the whole site. What happens if you just have it set on WindowsSignin.aspx?

In your web.config is it set to forms authentication or Windows authentication?

Mike,

we think we solved the problem. The site runs within an application pool we did not recycle. After we make the setting to recylcle the application pool on a fixed time,  the cookie problem dit not occur anymore. The problem with the cookies was, the users which didn't could login had a incomplete cookie, maybe due to a timing problem, the site was performing very slow. After the recycling of the application pool the site performs very well and the cookie problems are over...... My concern is now, why is  the w3wp.exe process (that runs the site) is growing and not decrease in size during the day. Are there maybe memory leaks in DNN?
