I've browsed the threads and haven't seen exactly this problem.  I'm building a web site, www.makeoaklandbetternow.org, for which I've build a custom registration page.  However, my clients tested it out today, and their response was, why do we have to have passwords, all we want the site to do is collect email addresses?  Which is true - the intent is for the site to be entirely public, so there's no point in anybody logging in except the administrators, and the user database will be used for mailing lists.  I've read several comments that you can't alter the registration page, so I guess you can't.  Is anybody else using a DNN site just to collect email addresses for people who will never log in directly?  If so, how did you do it?

I've looked at Dynamic Registration, and I'm quite sure my clients are not willing to spend that kind of money; they may be willing to buy the cheaper Simple Registration Module I found listed, I'll check with them.  I'd just like to know if there's any way to set this up in DNN using the native tools.

there are 3rd party modules for newsletter registration, requiring a name and email address only, e.g. Interapps SiteCommunicator, please check out www.snowcovered.com.

If users aren't needing to register - that is, no logging in for using features such as forums - then it's just an email subscription tool you are needing, not a user registration tool.

I'd suggest using the free OpenWebStudio for this. There's a sample configuration for double opt-in subscription too which would need to be imported into the OWS administrator once it's installed (like any DNN module).

Hope it helps!

Sebastian, thanks for the suggestion about Interapps Site Communicator, I'll check that out.

David, I'll certainly look into the OpenWebStudio suggestion; however, you've raised an important point that I need to make to my client.  He isn't thinking along any lines but sending email, but I think there may come a time when he'll want to put up a forum for his user community, in which case we would want them logged in with a password!  We're still mulling this over.
