Guys,

Upgrading seems very ambiguous. (Most info is about the older versions.)

Do you just copy the new files in the install directory over the live install install directory or everything,...noting we don't want to override any logos etc that have been updated etc.

to upgrade DNN:

  • backup files and database
  • stop your site or turn off "autoupgrade" in web.config
  • unzip all files hierarchically from upgrade package into DNN installation directory
  • start your site
  • browse your homepage, if autoupgrade turned off, browse /install/install.aspx?mode=upgrade

Note: do not modify core files or document it properly to migrate your changes on every upgrade.

Thanks for the answer.

The upgrade seems to have all files and directories including an install one.

So I take it you first remove everything in the install directory where you want to upgrade and then upzip everything into that?

That means there will be a .\install\install directory etc?

I would hold off on any upgrade until they release 5.2.1.  Also, if you are running any 3rd party modules, check with them to see if the modules have been tested with 5.2.  You will save yourself some headaches (hopefully)  And as always, BACK UP your site & database before any upgrades. :)

When you do an upgrade you leave the original files in place and copy the upgrade files over them.  So no, you won't have and install\install directory. I usually open the zip archive ( 7Zip is my preferred application) and then just drag all the files and folders into the root of my DNN install.

But as I said in my last post you should wait until 5.2.1 (and always create a back up of everything)
