Hi.

I'm running DotNetNuke V 5.1.4 and Help module 3.0.2.

Things were fine until I updated a category description of one of the items. THen everything disappeared. THe category module was empty and the tutorial module was likewise empty. I added a new help module just to test things. The tutorial for the one and only item in the new category shows up in both tutorial modules. THen, somehow, I got the following message on the original category module:

Error: Officers, Board, and Staff is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Modules.Help.NavPane.SelectNode() at DotNetNuke.Modules.Help.NavPane.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

Please help. It is very difficult to recover all the stuff if i have to type it all again!

Regards

Hans Hermans

did you try to restart the application (using command in Host Settings)? often this solves a temporary problem.

Hi;

Yes i tried that, to no avail. However, after studying the database some and trying various things I came to the following conclusions:

1. If two Help modules are placed in the same page, it appears that the help text for both will be displayed whenever either one of the categories is selected. This should be a bug.

2. The problem seems to have occurred when i made the last update. So i removed the text in the description field of the category item that had been updated and low and behold, everyting came back to normal. So, studying what had been put into that description field, I repeated pasting in some text from an email and caused the problem all over. Looking at the text, it appears innocent enough. Turns out that the last three characters pasted in are 46, 13, 10. These caused the problem. Probably another bug. Regards Hans

I added and deleted Help several times until i found out how to link the Categorie-Module to the Help-Text Module. So the System learned and stored the names of old Categorie-Moduls. I was happy to find out how to add more categories. The Help did finally work.

But now I changed the description of the first categorie - and lost all, like Hans hermans told. But even a restart of the application as Host didn´t help. It is even not possible to add more categories, and the system returns always to the non-existent first categorie-modul. I tried to reconnect to the right modul but with no result.

Hi IngaPf

The only way I found to make things come back is to go into the database (with SQL server management studio for example) and edit the description field of the record that caused the problem to begin with. If you don't know how to navigate thru the database but do have the ability to do it as such, I can send you the procedure to look at the right table.

Hope this helps

Hans

ps. Hope that these 'bugs' are confirmed by the module moderator but have not heard if they intend to do anything about it.
