Hello..

Our main portal shows 478 pages yet when I got to sitemap.aspx, only 115 entries are shown.  And even though it appears as though the Admin pages are configured to not be viewable by everyone (default config shows as viewable by everyone (??!)), these even show up as being listed; UGH.

I've tried using http://www.auditmypc.com/xml-sitemap.asp to create a sitemap.xml file.  I've tried to get Google webmaster tools to point to this and it is not working; resulting 404 error.  WTH?

So, if I were to create a robots'txt file, where would I place this file so that the search engines hit this instead?

Thanks..

please make sure to be logged out (as any bot would be) when viewing at sitemap.aspx. you don't need a different tool

if you create a robots.txt, it needs to be placed in the root of the installation directory (where web.config resides).

Hello..

I thinking the issues was because I logged out and used the same browser..  I tried three different browsers and Admin is no longer listed..

BUT, all my pages still aren't being listed in the results.  Is this normal?

Are all of the pages you're looking for set for "All Users" viewing?

please note the following requirements for pages to be listed in sitemap.aspx:

  • "show in menu" turned on
  • view permission granted to "all users" or "unauthorised users"
  • page not expired (start date .. end date)
