if a SQL call times out, it is most of the time an issue with the database. I'd start checking size of the Transaction Log (make sure, it gets truncated on nightly backups), number of entries in eventlog and schedule history tables, clear and rebuild the search index as well as re-index the database.

Sebastian, We have this error in ALL our 5.5.1 installations and they are very tiny in both traffic and sql db size. I think this is a BUG with the Scheduler.

are you using Scheduler in Timer mode or Request mode (strongly suggested!)?

Sebastian, I have tried both methods, no luck. I think the Timer mode is suggested and not the Request (default) mode.

I don't know what the problem was exactly, but after moving my website to a new webhead and db server the timeouts stopped.
