Hello,

I have a DNN 4.9.5 installation running on a PowerDNN account. When I create a link to a file download using the Text/HTML Module's FCK editor, the pop-up "Link Gallery" console offers me a checkbox entitled:

"Track Number Of Times This Link Is Clicked?"

I have checked the above option for several links on my site. I am not clear on where this information is being stored, or how I can retrieve it. I have searched this form and a DNN "User's guide", but have not yet found any clear instructions. The Site Log does not appear to display this information under Admin>>Site Log.

The source for the download link does appear to reference server-side code:

href="/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=SG9%2bFwJvfTA%3d&tabid=38"

Any help or advice on how to retrieve this link-click info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

information should be stored in urltracking table and you might use reports module to generate any stats.

Thank you for the suggestion - I am trying this now. I thought of an alternate method last night; I don't know if it will work or not and will try it this weekend:

I want to track URL links (to outside URLs) and/or file download links out of a series of Text/HTML modules for my main site and a number of parent portals. The UrlTracking table method seems to be a bit cumbersome, and I don't see any evidence that it is picking up any clicks form the parent portals.

Why not create "node" pages for each link to an outside URL and to each download file? i.e. a link in the HTML to a downloadable PDF will actually link to another page in the site. This hidden page will be set as a "node" by having the Page Settings >>Advanced Settings>> Other>>Link URL/Link Type radio button set to "File ( A File On Your Site )". In the same way, an HTML link to an outside URL would instead lead to a hidden page with the Page Settings >>Advanced Settings>> Other>>Link URL/Link Type radio button set to URL ( A Link To An External Resource ) .

Hopefully this would cause the links clicks to appear as distinct page visits in the Google Analytics results, preventing me from having to deal with the UrlTracking table data/Reports module.

Has anyone does this? Does it sound good/bad? I'll report back on my results.

FYI, these "node page links" appear to be working. Instead of setting page links directly to an outside URL or to a download file on the site, each link has a "node page" created for it. The node pages lead to the final link destinations, and the users passing through these nodes are recorded by Google Analytics.

[Original DNN page] >> link on page leads to >> [node page that redirects to outside link or on-site file]

...with this arrangement, all link traffic appears in the GA account. I don't have to dig up link-clicks from the URLTracking table and reconcile them with my seperate GA account stats.

I have some extra reports I wrote a while back.  This is just a set of Sql scripts which you run into your site, which creates new reports on the reporting screen.

One of these reports is a link click report : ie, shows how manu clicks you got on a given link.  I use it to track the number of clicks on downloaded files.
