We're using html style tags in the page name to style different elements of the page name differently when showing the page name as a title on the page.  Unfortunately, the brackets < > are removed from the page name in url's but not the text portion of the tag.  So, a page name in the page settings as "About < em >Us< / em >  is then named "AboutemUsem" in the url whether using humanfriendly or searchfriendly url format.  It seems like DNN is trying to either strip html tags or just special characters from the page name for the purpose of the url.  Can it be set to strip the entire tag from the page name only for the url, but have the html style tags remain when using PortalSettings.ActiveTab.TabName to place the page name as a title on the page?  If it can be done, how?

either modify the urlrewriter or use  URLmaster from Ifinity.com.au, which might solve this situation (please ask them directly).

How exactly is the urlrewriter modified?  Is that in the host settings page in the section for friendly url's or directly in a file somewhere?

FYI there is a regexMatch parameter in the DNNFriendlyUrl definition in the web.config that allows you to alter what characters are allowed as part of the url.

Cathal - my understanding is that the regex in the FriendlyUrl definition only defines what goes into the friendly 'path' as opposed to being left in a querystring.  The regex doesn't actually have any find/replace capability.

For the record, the Url Master module will solve the problem for you ; all you would need to do is to define a new Url for each affected page.

Of course you could also look at the problem from another direction and remove the Html from the page name, and work out a way to format your menu items with CSS.
