Accepted Answer 

The solution to this problem was in the Web.config file. After upgrading, our web.config file was overwritten and I replaced what I thought were the necessary items, such as the connection string, machine key, validation key, ect. There is a webfarm line in the webconfig and our was set to false after the upgrades, while it was true before the upgrades. Changing the value to true fixed all of the problems we were having.
