I took a look at the URLControl code for DNN framework v 4.09.00 and find that the issue relating to use of the URLControl in an AJAX UpdatePanelI had been fixed long before that version - probably back in DNN 4.05.03 - so don't believe that that is the problem. Although it might still be if the control is inside two nested update panels - your own explicitely added UpdatePanel inside of the one in which the module control is wrapped if Supports Partial Rendering is enabled in the module definition.

As the exception is apparently raised early in the URLControls cmdSave_Click handler, before the FileSystemUtils.UploadFile method is called I still suspect that the URLControls HtmlFileInput child control's PostedFile property is the cause of the null reference. As Sebastian indicated, this might also be due to some of the control's properties that are not being set correctly.

Are you able to debug your module in a DNN source install so that you can set a breakpoint at the top of the URLControl's cmdSave_Click handler and step through it's code?

If not, please advise how you are setting the URLControl's properties.
