I've run into an error installing a trial verison of a new verndor's module {SmithCart) and he has suggested that the problem could be that my site is not AJAX enabled or that there is some kind of incompatibility.   The DNN Event Viewer reports this error:  "The base class includes the field 'UpdatePanel2', but its type (System.Web.UI.UpdatePanel) is not compatible with the type of control (System.Web.UI.UpdatePanel)."

I am running DNN 5.1.1. and the error appears both on my localhost site (Win XP) and production site hosted by PowerDNN.

I understood that AJAX is enabled by default in DNN5.x.  How can I confirm that it, in fact, is enabled?

Also any thoughts or comments on tracing or interpeting the error message would be appreciated.

 Hey Al,

This error message (from experience) has always meant some sort of versioning conflict with the System.Web.Extensions.dll. You'll want to double check what versions of that assembly are in your GAC, your website's bin directory, and then what version information is specified in your web.config.

Here is a web site that provides an example with information about what should be in the web.config (translated from German): but its type (System.Web.UI.UpdatePanel) is not compatible with the type of control.

Hope that helps & feel free to post more information/questions here.

Ian . . . Thanks very much.

That web.config revision eliminated the error.

Your reply and help very much appreciated.

Happy Holidays!

Al
