Hello,

I have a client who has a large inventory of products and wants to put them online. They are currently listed in excel spreedsheats with description and pricing. He has a very small budget and does not want to pay to have the information re-entered. Is there a way with dnn to incorporate his spreedsheets or is there a module or extention that can be used in conjunction with dnn?

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

DotNetNuke uses a relational database at its heart, SQL Server.  So any data that is currently being maintained in Excel could easily be imported into SQL Server and then maintained with whatever application you're using.  You might be able to get by with an existing module or, alternatively, something could be customized for them.  I'm sure that with a little more information you'd get plenty of suggestions for how your goals could be accomplished.

dink,

You can view the data in the speadsheets via several different reporting modules.  Excel spread sheets can be read via SQL, so all you need is an appropriate connection string to the spread sheet.  (see www.connectionstrings.com for example of an connection string).

The Report module, SQLView and SQLGridSelectedView will all be able to display the contents.  You can find SQLGridSelectedView available from my website www.tressleworks.ca  and SQLVIew from www.DnnStuff.com

please be aware, that it is easy to display data from a spreadsheet, but not to edit it online - and even not updating the spreadsheet, while the web site is running. Usually it is easier to import data to SQL and provide edit form and views using a generic data module.
