I know that DNN is looking at refining its UI in future versions & thought it would be nice to start a thead to have a discussion about it.

I think it would be nice if we could start using more frameworks like jQuery Tools (http://flowplayer.org/tools/demos/ind...) in DNN so that we can create extensions that all have a simular look & feel.

Currently we have different modules including different plugins for simple things like lightboxes which makes it very hard to skin & also adds extra downloads on the site when "module 1" uses "http://colorpowered.com/colorbox/", "module 2" uses "http://fancybox.net/" & "module 3" uses "http://www.shadowbox-js.com/index.html".

By using a framework that handles all the same simple tasks like jQuery Tools does (overlays, tooltips, tabs, expose, scrollable etc..), skinning becomes easier (just need to edit one css file) & module conficts become less of a problem.

I agree, jQuery Tools is a very nice little library. However, I can't see it becoming part of the framework. Instead, as part of DNN Corp's agreement with Telerik, I would expect to see more wrappers for the Telerik controls appearing very soon (basically as the core team start to make use of them), and that these will become the DNN "standard" for simple controls. Of course, jQuery Tools is a very small download and available on a CDN, so if you do want to use it then the overhead is fairly minimal, and presumably it won't be too tricky to switch to Telerik as and when wrappers become available.
