Can someone possibly help us out here.
We have setup DNN 322 and haev configured the SMTP server which we know works.
We have set the registration method to Verified.
When a user registers DNN indicates that an email will be sent.
The user never receives an email.

Can anyone advise ?

You probably have to log-in as host and under Host Settings enter your SMTP server settings, there is a convenient link right there to test it.  This enables your Verification E-mails, Password Reminders, and Newsletters.  Read more at the below topic

Hey Steve,

Were you able to get it working?  I'm running DNN 4.0.2 and I've run into the same problem.  I logged in as host and configured the SMTP and clicked "test".  I received the e-mail, but for some reason the verification e-mails to the test accounts I'm creating are still not working???

Any ideas?

I managed to fix the problem.  I logged in as "host" and went to the "host settings".  There you can specify the SMTP server.  I entered 'localhost' with no UserID or Password.  My test accounts are all receiving their e-mails now.  Hope this helps!
