My boss wants my to change the look of the homepage to include three narrow html modules in the main content pane.  Is this possible?

Thanks.

Absolutely.  The layout of a page is a simle thing for a designer to change, it is a function of the site "skin" and the way the designer has laid out the different "content zones" on the page.  Show the desired layout to a skin designer (just the wire frames) and they can update your skin to your specifications.

you need to apply an appropriate page skin and module containers - see thousands of examples on www.snowcovered.com or create your own one, e.g. using Artisteer.

There are modules that will permit you to adjust the layout of other modules within a pane in an existing skin.  One such module that I have used often  is ModuleWrapper from ZLDNN.com.
