I am about to start supporting an installation of DotNetNuke - the client knows I know little and am starting to learn DotNetNuke.

The first thing I need to know is how to find out which version of DotNetNuke the client's website is using, so that I can start to learn DotNetNuke using the same version as he is using.. How do I find this out?

Also, I know SQL Server really well, so I would like to start looking at the database early on too.. How do I find out the SQL Server settings?  For example the Server name, database name, userid and password?

If you have access to the host account you can check the version under

Host->Host Settings

For the DB info you can look in the web.config file.  If it is using integrated security there will  no user ID / passowrd.

If you have no access to Host Settings, you can also take a look at dotnetnuke.dll file under Bin directory of remote directory. Download the file to your computer and browse it via Windows Explorer.

Thanks so much for that.. I am getting the DNN host info so will be able to find out the version..

Now, I wonder if you can help me with something else..

In the version of DNN I installed on my pc to try out DotNetNuke, I have three buttons at the top left of the screen for "mode" - view, edit or layout.. I dont have these on the DNN I am trying to work with on the server.. when I log in it is as though the top line on the page is missing - is this, again, because I need to do it through the DNN Host?  Or is this something else?

Is there some other way of changing the layout?  I need to add a new content pane but cant work out how to do it

Thanks for that info.. I found the version info.. Probably part of the problem is that I am trying to support version 3.2.2 on .Net 1.1.4 but the version I am running on my pc is 5.02.01 with .Net 3.5

Could this be the reason that at the top of the screen there is no Mode: View/Edit/Layout option?  I am trying to add a new content pane - is there any way I can add a new content pane without access to those options?  Or how can I get to the Layout option in the older version?
