Hello,

We want our application to support web farm. For that I've done the changes as mentioned in http://www.dotnetnuke.com/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=uBK3uGIYYXg%3D&tabid=478&mid=857

We have set up NLB as explained  in http://www.west-wind.com/presentations/loadbalancing/NetworkLoadBalancingWindows2003.asp

As long as I'm using FileBasedCachingProvider the application works fine. As soon as I chaneg it to BroadcastPollingCachingProvider it stops working. Even the login / home page is not getting shown.

We are using DNN 4.9.0.

Please let me know if I'm missing some setting.

Depending on the size of your site and the configurations.  The BroadcastPollingCachingProvider is a very DB heavy action.  Do you see incredibly high traffic on the SQL Server?  Potentially to the point of stopping it from responding?

Hello Mitchel,

Our application has heavy DB traffic and it could be causing problems as you have mentioned. But then how to give web farm support? When we tried FileBasedCachingProvider we faced problem that, when a user's request is getting processed by one server it is processed properly, but when that user's request goes to other server it fails. Any consicutive requests getting processed by first server work fine and the ones getting processed by second server fail.

We have setup NLB cluser using 2 web servers. Both the web servers have their own copy of application (DNN 4.9.0). They both point to a single DB server.

Can we use FileBasedCachingProvder in this setup? Is there any way we can specify a path in web.config, where to store the cache dependency files?

Or is there any other alternative?

Thanks & Regards,
- Vivek Athalye

I recommend moving to DNN Professional if you want to implement DNN in a webfarm. One of the big reasons for doing this is because it ships with caching provider, which is a webservice for this very need. You can, of course, write your own caching provider that does the same thing but I think this approach is cheaper.
