Now, either you are DNN Skin or module developer, you have 2 options:
1. Buy the Telerik Developer License which is USD999 per developer OR
2. Buy DotNetNuke Professional Edition that shipped with Telerik Full Developer version which allow unlimited usage in any sense.

As Cathal said - that is wrong.
At the moment, it is technically true since the wrappers aren't in place, but since the post is arguing that "eventually" you'll have to pay - it's wrong because there will be DNN wrappers granting access to the telerik controls.
If you just HAVE to have the telerik controls. I use jQuery plenty in my modules to do some smooth effects. So there are alternatives to a slick UI aside from telerik. Telerik just makes excellent UI controls with some of the best server side functionality I've ever used; and when I need server side, I use them. If I need just a pretty UI, I generally go jQuery.

The post also talks about needing to buy the telerik licence to use controls such as OnyakTech - Which was true until DNN included the DLL. Now those modules can be purchased and used by anyone with the proper version of DNN. DNN has just reduced the cost required to use purchasable modules that do take advantage of the telerik controls.

The short version is; The author of that post is ill-informed, especially for posting something today, about the roadmap for DNN with the telerik controls.

End-users can enjoy the Telerik RadControls for free ONLY IF module developers willing to buy the developer license or DNN Pro edition with comes with Telerik License.

Since Module Developers have to charge (higher price maybe - depends on developer) for their modules in order to cover the license fees.

You may see some of the core modules are using Telerik Radcontrols which is good for end users but if we see it from commercial prespective, it's nothing more than a promotional strategy to set the standard in order to 'encourage' more developers to use this 'standardize' extension rather than the old DNN Web controls 'going to be ceased eventually' (personal observation) in the DNN Roadmap.

Thanks,
George

At the moment, sure, I can grant that. The user doesn't have to buy a licence anymore though. I see that as as very positive step. Onyak ships with the trial version, and has very cheap prices for the vast amount you get. I don't see any increase in price in his stuff because of the use of telerik in comparison to other similar modules that do not.

Once the wrappers are in place, any module developer will be able to use the wrappers to use telerik controls in their module without any cost to them, or the end user.
This is what I see as the real beauty of the agreement between DNN and telerik - Over time more and more [and better and better] access to the telerik web controls will be available through the DNN wrappers to grant module developers greater ability to use the controls without need for a licence on the developer or user side of things.

I hope they phase in the telerik controls to the current DNN web controls. No offense guys - They's not the purtiest. :)
I can readily accept that it DNN is going to encourage use of the available telerik controls when the come available. It will help improve the UI and easily available functionality for module developers.
Note to DNN/Telerik guys working on wrappers/intergration - Make sure setting a custom skin is available, plzkthx. :)

IFF there wasn't going to be way to access the telerik controls without the conditions quoted at the top - Yes, there would be cause for concern. Since that is not the case - through the DNN Open Core API access to the telerik controls will be available so any module developer can use them - there is no need to be concerned about, what seems to be your point, a forced purchase of the telerik controls.

Hi

Well this is based on your experience but You dont need all these modules annd you forgot some free ones

3. announcement module  can be done with OWS ( openwebstudio) which is free

2. tabs module, rotator module most on snowcovered but not all are just simple dnn wrappers for free jQuery solutions. This is very simple and free to do by implementing thesese directly in skins and you ahve better control that most of these so called helper modules

6. Wait for the results from the skinning contest there are a nr of us who made skins and these will be avaialbe free of charge with very nice license to do what you want ( unlike to the winner of the first skin contest which didnt have good rules in place so that winner charged everyone for the use of a modified version of his skin.

7.Forms and list module again OWS

As for myself I use DotNetNuek as a framework fro my own develoment the only module that stays installed is the html module the rest is cuctom , some modules I dont like , some do way too musch others do way too little
