Hi all,

Another newbie posting a Q around alias resolution.

Here are some of the details of my set-up:
1. Running W2003 Server
2. IIS 6.0
3. SQL 2000
4. DotNetNuke 4.030

I installed DNN 4.030 successfully and can access the Portal Website ('My Website') via \\localhost\dnn_403 and \\mydomain.com\dnn_403

As soon as I add \\mydomain.com as an alias to the portal it resolves to the IIS 6.0 'Under Construction Page'.

It seems as if DNN is not controlling the default webpage as I understood it would with proper configuration.

Can anyone assist?

Hi dvisser,

This is a typical IIS oversight. Seems to me you forgot to put the mydomain.com into the website header file.

To solve this go into IIS, down to your virtual site and choose properties.
In the "Web site indentification" block, choose Advanced and then Add..
Then set the TCP port (normally 80) and mydomain.com in the "Host Header value" box.
Back out using OK and you should be able to access your site in the way you want.

One other thing to remind;

give DNS a C-name (alias) to point www.mydomain.com towards your webserver (e.g. server1.testing.somewhere-else)

Hi Neesie,

Thanks for the input. I checked the WebSite Identification box under the Default Website -> DNN_403 (is my virtual directory) and it has default IP Address and blank, www.mydomain.com and mydomain.com listed. I could only make the change in the Default Website directory under Web Sites in II6. I could not change the settings for Web Site Identification in my newly created DNN_403 virtual directory.

I thought the portal was suppose to take care of that with the http alias update I did as host on www.mydomain.com . I listed both the www and root of mydomain.com to no avail. I still get the 'Under construction page'.

Your help is much appreciated.

- dv

you're getting the default IIS page, wich is default.asp. DotNetNuke uses default.aspx, in order to change this just go your IIS, under 'default web site' select properties, then the documents seperator, insert/change so that default.aspx is the first on that list.

Now it should work with no problems. Hope it helps

That should normally be taken care of when you "upgrade" the .Net version from 1.4xxx to 2.0yyy

As far as I can remember the *.aspx extension was introduced in the default page box. Maybe not as the first one to encounter, but it surely was there when I upgraded..

Your suggestion for that matter is correct that the .aspx extension should be the first one in the list box.

Hope that - dv is still following this thread..

Greetz,

Neesie
