I'm trying to get DNN 4.0.3 up and running on Windows 2003 (.net 2.0). After loading the site the first time, the scripts create the web.config file, but it is empty (no tags get added) which of course causes a problem. I noticed, however, that the siteurls.config also gets added and gets content added. I've set the "NETWORK SERVICE" account to have full privileges on the root folder. Does anyone have any thoughts as to why the web.config file isn't being written to?

Thanks

The web.config file is incluced in the "install" package.  All you have to do is rename the "release.config" file to "web.config" and then edit the database connection lines.  The install doesn't create the web.config file.

  • What version of DNN are you installing?
  • What database are you useing?  ex.  SQL 2000, SQL 2005, SQL 2005 Express, MSDE 2000?

Check out my a small guide that I made, this might give you a better picture of the process of installing DNN
