Hi All,

I found that Wiki is a great module!!! Can anybody please clarify my following doubts?

1. What exactly is the difference between the "Editor" and "Moderator" role? I found that "Moderator" role has got extra featurs of "Lock/Watch". Is it correct?

2. In 'Configure Wiki Sites",  click on "Edit" link of any site. Then on click of "Cancel" link, I get the error:"Error: Configure wiki sites is currently unavailable". Is it bug of the module?

3. What is the functionality of "Lock" and "Watch"?

4. What is the difference between the "Orphaned pages" and "Strongest pages"?

5. Howmany number of changes being accommodated in "latest Changes"?

6. In Diff result page, can you please explain me all the fields? Ex: "Diff. result between 51 nd 54" What is 51 and 54?

7. In "Maintanence" what is "Refresh Link", "Rake version", "Clean Database", "Save Pages", "Load pages"?

8. Is there any guide available whee I can find answers for all of my above questions?

Thanks & Regards,

Sharanya

Hi Sharanya, I have a couple of answers and will post more as I find them out:

Q4.           What is the difference between the "Orphaned pages" and "Strongest pages"?

"Orphaned Pages" are pages which isn't linked to by any other pages. This can happen when say Page A has a link to Page B. Page A is then edited and the link to Page B is deleted. Page B then becomes an orphaned page. Wiki's are designed to have all pages linked together to create good cross referencing, so orphans aren't very desirable.

By contrast "Strongest Pages" are those pages with the most links from other pages.

Q1. What exactly is the difference between the "Editor" and "Moderator" role? I found that "Moderator" role has got extra featurs of "Lock/Watch". Is it correct?

Editors are users that can contribute to the Wiki - adding new pages and editing existing pages.  Moderators can also contribute as well as perform a number of other tasks. These include "Maintenance" on the Wiki. Maintenance tasks are: Refreshing Links, Rake Versions, Clean Database, Save Pages, Load Pages. Moderators can also delete versions of the Wiki under the "History" button, and can Lock a page from being edited.

Only Moderators can "Lock" a page from editing. Both Moderators and Editors can "Watch" a page.

Q7. In "Maintenance" what is "Refresh Link", "Rake version", "Clean Database", "Save Pages", "Load pages"?

  • Refresh Links: Updates the database with the newest link info.
  • Rake Version: Deletes one versions of pages and keeps only the latest page version.
  • Clean Database: General administration of database makes sure all links are up to date.
  • Save Pages: Saves all the current pages in the Wiki so you can Load them into another Wiki. Think of it as Export pages.
  • Load Pages: Lets you import previously Saved Pages. You might like to do this into a new site in the existing Wiki, or into a new Wiki module.

Q6. In Diff result page, can you please explain me all the fields? Ex: "Diff. result between 51 nd 54" What is 51 and 54?

Diffs page lets you compare the different between two different versions of the Wiki. Lets say for instance you select Version 1 in the left column and Version 2 in the right column, this will display the difference between these two version, highlighting the added pages ( +1, +2, etc ) and deleted pages (-1, -2, -3, etc). It will also display a message like: "Diff. result between 51 and 54". This means these are the differences between the 51st and 54th editing of the Wiki, even though it is only the difference between Version 1 and Version 2 for this particular page.
