I've installed an instance of dnn 5.2.2 on www.website.com/portal. i added a new subdomain to use as a new portal, sub1.website.com and added a host header/domain pointer to www.website.com. I tried to create a parent portal using sub1.website.com. I could view thedetails of the portal in the host account of www.website.com, but i could not view the portal when i went to sub1.website.com.

what have i done wrong?

I am getting the following: (HTTP 403 Forbidden)

This error (HTTP 403 Forbidden) means that Internet Explorer was able to connect to the website, but it does not have permission to view the webpage.

I don't see how the Header /Domain Pointer on the host 'www.website.com' set as sub1.website.com can direct browser to the sub-folder where the main DNN is installed 'www.website.com/portal'

Does the DNN main installation have to be in the root of the domain?

Thanks.

on a server, DNN should be installed in the root of the domain.

if not, you need to use same relative path for all portal aliases.

Thanks - the relative path works only to the extent that it navigates to the main DNN home page. I expected it to go to the home page for the portal (sub1.webhost.com). I also can't log in as the new portal admin.

Am I correct thinking each portal is a completly seperate website effectively managed on a single DNN installation? If so how to I get a different home page for th enew portal?

Thanks for your help
