I'm running DNN 5 on windwos server 2008/IIS 7.  I've gone through a few threads about setting up the active directory authentication and have set things up.  I have it so if an account exists in DNN the user can connect and it will log them in automatically.  If they don't have an account they won't be able to connect to the site.  I did this because I couldn't get auto-login and auto-account creation to work together.  I could have it set where users go to the login page, choose Active Directory, type in their credentials and an account would be created for them.  But, we opted to have the auto-login work instead.  So, admins will create the account for new users, then people can connect.

So my questions are.

1. Why can't i have both working together?  I'd like it to log people in automatically and if they don't have an account it will auto-create one for them (without them having to type things in maually).  This is just an intranet so everyone will be part of our domain when connecting.

2. I can't seem to get my roles to sync with the active directory roles.  I have an active directory group Employees so I made the same in DNN.  I tried both mydomain\Employees and Employees.  I expected people to be added to this group when they login to the site.  i.e. if mydomain\user1 is a member of Employees in active directory, he would be added to the DNN role automatically when he connects.  Obviously I can manually add him to the DNN role, but I'd rather have it all in one spot.

What you describe wanting is how it should be working. Do you get any errors when you're trying to apply the settings? Have you read through the documentation to make sure you haven't misconfigured something?

We have the same Effect by our Portal-System with DNN 04.09.04.

  • We have all made in the Documentation!
  • All Results are green in the Authentication Settings
  • Windows Integrated Login works fine with AD-Users
  • Manual Windows-Login work also fine with AD-User
  • We see also in our Network-Monitor that our Domain-Controller sends back the specified Groups to DNN
  • But the User is only in AD a Member of the needed Group!
  • When we plave the User in DNN in the Role and we logged in with the AD-User the member is removed in the DNN-Role

We find no Error or other Info to resolve the Problem.

Have anyone a Tip for a Solution?

We have changed our AD-Groups in the AD to Universal-Groups and now works also the Group-Sync.
