I agree this is very strange bug.
It happened in one of my website after upgrading into 3.1

Tam,

Any update on this? I'm encountering the same issue. I installed the Gallery module on DNN 3.1 and it worked fine yesterday. I made the necessary changes to account for the issue with Maintenance and everything was fine. But, today, I went back to the site and I'm getting this same "A critical error has occurred." error when I try to load the page that has the Gallery module on it.

I am experiencing this same error. I am also running at GoDaddy (not sure if this is coincidence). I installed Gallery and added a bunch of images and it worked fine yesterday. Now I get :

A critical error has occurred.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

I will provide any further detail if it helps to troubleshoot.

Nevermind, I solved my issue by clearing the businesscontroller value for Gallery in the Desktopmodules table and reuploading DotNetNuke.Modules.Gallery.dll.

It seems to be working now.

Could you go into a little bit more detail on this?  It almost seems too easy to fix it.  I'm trying to understand how that would fix things.  I'm eagerly awaiting the next release of the Gallery.  Getting it to work on a fresh install of 3.1 has been a challenge!

I have the same issue. I have tried to duplicate it a few times by removing the gallery definition and re-uploading it, then re-adding it to the page.

Like perezjs said, it works for a while, then it dies. So... I think it has something to do with the recycling of worker processes in IIS (I have it on Windows 2003). So far it has been consistent on working for at least 10-15 min, then later it dies. The default idle time for worker processes in IIS is 20 min, so that may explain what we see.

Now why... :) that is a different story and is out of my league... ;)
