dotnetnuke 4.9 installation with user passwords encrypted.

we have to develop a webservice (on same server or if needed even in the dnn) where users can only use the webservice if the name and pass is verified against the dotnetnuke users.

so we need to get from dnn 2 things. 1 is the user a valid user? and 2. what roles does the user have.

Can this be done? And how? And sometimes I find things like Iweb (if i am correct) project.. is this better?

Thanks!!!

Sander

You can use the membership class of AspNetSqlMembershipProvider (Membership.ValidateUser method). If (Membership.ValidateUser(user, password)) Then... This will not work with roles tough, because AspNetSqlMembershipProvider are not synchronised with DNNRoles

I've create a Web service to give access to my DNN 5.05.01 project from Silverlight and Flash using SOAP. I don't think I really need IWeb... Here is my testing code : ... using DotNetNuke.Security.Membership; using DotNetNuke.Entities.Users; ... public string HelloWorld() { ... bool validuser = Membership.ValidateUser("myusername", "mypassword"); //<= It Works UserInfo ui = UserController.GetUserByName(0, "myusername"); // Not working ... } This last line generate a "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" exception. Any idea ? Thanks
