In the typical menu, the Admin and Host items are added to the end of your main menu when a user with admin or host priviledges logs in.  I would like to have a different behavior.

Instead of having the Admin and Host menu items simply added to the end of the main menu when a user logs in that has admin or host priviledges, I would like a new menu to be displayed in a different location on the page.  For example, in the upper right corner of the page.  This new menu (I'll call it the "System" menu for now) would be styled to be suttle, not to dominate the page.  This System menu would only show the Admin and Host menu items.  The main menu would not changed in any way.

Is this possible?  Can anyone suggest a solution?

Glen,

DNN 5+ has the Admin and Host Menu as separate items in the Control Panel. There are ways to "get rid" of these in the default menu and a lot of third-party menus have this option. Upgrade to 5.2.2 and you'll see what I mean...

Again, In order to help solve your problem, it's always good to give a few more details than you have:

  1. What version of DNN are you using?
  2. Is there a live version that we can look at?
  3. Is your skin a purchased skin, or your won skin that you designed?
  4. Does the skin have a valid XML Doctype declaration file?
  5. etc, etc

If you give all the facts, we can help you a little better...

Thanks Jon

I was running 5.2.0, but upgraded to 5.2.3 today.  I see the Admin and Host links in the Control Panel, and this is perfect for what I wanted.  However, I do not see how to "get rid" of them in the default menu.  I'm not sure what you mean when you say that I'll see what you mean after I upgrade.

To answer your questions:

1. What version: 5.2.3

2. Is there a live version? No, I'm trying to build a skin on my local machine that gets rid of the Admin and Host menus at the root.

3. Is you skin purchased... No.

4. Does the skin have a valid XML Doctype declaration file? Yes.

How do I get rid of them?

Thanks for you help.

most menus used in DNN skins have parameters to suppress host and admin menu.

if you want to have a menu like list in the control panel, check out free Advanced Control Panel from www.oliverhine.com

Hi Glen

I usually do this in 2 ways

1.

use he menu from dnngarden.com and set the main menu not to display the host and admin, then add another module that only renders unordered list or dropdown for host and admin ( its completely templatable so you have full control over output )

2.

Just as Sebastion suggest replace your control panel with the one from Oliver Hine,  I use the ribbon bar in minimized state ( ver clean no abundant space, extra funtions and most of all no annoying postbacks ) and ofcourse use the dnngarden.com menu and set it to not dispay admin and host menu.

3.

If you want to use the dnn:nav option you can wait till my submission for the skin contest is avaiable to view what i have doen there is use the new unodered list option of dnn:nav and then use jquery to move the host and admin menu items fron the top menu and move it to a left pane easy acessible.
