I've been trying to upgrade my DNN installation from 4.9.5 to a 5.x version for the past few days.

No matter which version I have tried to upgrade to (5.0.1, 5.1.4, or 5.2.2) I experience the same issue. The installation seems to complete without an issue, but I am unable to login to the website.

I only have an Admin and Superuser account, no standard users. Every time it's the same error. "A critical error has occurred. Object reference not set to an instance of an object." with no further explanation.

Is this something normal?

To make it even stranger, my test site suddenly decided to allow me to login. It was about 12 hours after my upgrade, and I didn't do anything that would explain the sudden change in behavior. I thought it might be related to my browser so I dumped all my cookies and cache, but still no dice.

Any ideas?
