Thanks for your response.

I tried changing the compatibility levels - no effect on the problem.

Cliff;

I've seen this error before during 5.2.2 testing. I logged a bug but no one else, 6 ppl, could reproduce the error.

I know you're not going to like this but my fix was blowing away the installation and starting all over again.

These are the bugs with the same error as you're seeing: DNN-11487; DNN-10219 both are set to Closed/Cannot Reproduce

For what it's worth to you both Alex and I upgrade 4.9.5 test site, multiple portals/pages/users/modules, during 5.2.3 testing and we didn't run into this error.

If you've got error(s) in the Event Log table in the database I'd appreciate you posting them. Even if it's an error out of the WIndows event log that would help.

Thanks Ken for the feedback,

I have already reached the decision to start again (unfortunately i was heavily into a development project and although I had backups before the upgrade I could only use these to look at the contents of files i.e they could not be used to resurrect a working DNN site - i'll come back to this later).

What is the most appropriate format to send you log entries?

Some other information that might be pertinent follows.

My reason for attempting an upgrade (to 5.2.3) was because I had some problems with 4.9.5. I am not sure if the following changes are relevant but they are the only thing that changed before the problem with 4.9.5 became apparent. I made some changes to the 'Splash' ' Home' and 'Logon' options on the 'Site Settings' 'Advanced Settings' (from memory I think I set them all to the 'Home' page). Shortly after these changes I started to experience the 'infinite redirect' problem (I assume you are familiar with this issue if you are not familar with this issue I will track down some references on the forums). This meant I could no longer even get a home page up let alone log in. After researching the problem and not finding a solution I decided to backup everything (which obviously included my changes to 'Site Settings') and then attempted the upgrade to 5.2.3 with the resulting problem which gave rise to this thread.

I may be confusing the issue by mentioning my previous problems with changes to a 4.9.5 installation but it may well have some bearing on the problem with upgrading?

Thanks again for your feedback and I am at your disposal if you wish to find out anything else about my configuration.

Chris;

That's Cathal being proactive and giving advanced notification to the change upcoming in 5.3.0.

It should not be in 5.2.3 unless it was undocumented prior to QA receiving the bits.

Cliff;

Log a bug in Gemini @ support.dotnetnuke.com

Attach the log as either .xls or .cvs to the bug.

Also, can you detail the changes you made to Site Settings affecting the Home page and logon options in Site Settings?

I need clarity around the setting you changed for each in order to reproduce the "infinite redirect" you are running into. I've seen the descriptions of looping but I'm pretty certain, like the rest of DNN, there's more than 1 way to skin the cat.

I'll make sure that both Alex and I run repro steps so we can get this area cleaned up too....
