Hi all,

I believe the fix for forcing IE7 compatibility in IE8 using meta tags is working.

Check out my blog.

http://paulchu.wordpress.com/2010/03/...

<head id="Head" runat="server">
    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />
    <meta content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" http-equiv="Content-Type"/>

So far, it seems to be working.  I had  IE=7 earlier which was NOT.

Let me know if it works for you !

Doesn't change anything over here (except removes the compataility "toggle" from the IE8 browser bar). The killers are the javascript driven links because there's no way to get at the intended destination with a simple browser refresh.

Hmmm,

Re-tested today with the meta tags on my system and it's NOT working.

Drat, I'm retracting this "fix" on my blog now.

I believe this should be reported to dnn corp ?

Thanks, Paul

Hi again,

I was hoping for some more comments / workaround / fix for this ?

I have a new DNN Client and I'm thinking I can only recommend going with DNN 4.9.5 instead of DNN 5 if this is really a DNN5/IE8 javascript/ajax issue.

Anyone else in the same boat with Migrating or Setting up a new DNN 5 site ?

Update: I tried to Register at  support.dotnetnuke.com to report this issue but the Gemini registration page doesn't work when I click Register.

Can someone else please report the problem ?  I tried sending an email to support@dotnetnuke.com but it was returned

Thanks,  LA Guy ( Paul )

Hi Guys

I have experienced this hanging issue for most of version 5.0 if i remember.

I am currently viewing this very forum page in FireFox 3.6.3 on Vista... I am getting the rotating "ajax" image in the browser tab and it doesn't complete loading the page (unless the users clicks stop) BTW IE 6.0.3xx does not seem affected by this and there are no JS errors. Strangley enough the DotNetNuke.com home page also hangs for me in FF - but not in IE7.

My cliients are always gonna spot something like this (an unloaded page) ... and they do :(
Anyway, after playing around with some other apps today, i found this site >> http://tools.pingdom.com/

Its a really useful analysis tool that allows you to see ALL the page objects that get loaded at a quick glance. I'm pretty sure that i can see a number of files that dont load properly / completely. The files are:

https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.2/jquery.min.js
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Portals/25/Banners/180x150_superpower.gif
http://twitter-badges.s3.amazonaws.com/follow_us-b.png
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/ScriptResource.axd?d=9tiSxbdIZwN... [string is shortened for this forum post]

I suspect its the ScriptResource.axd file myself.. but as Microsoft conjours this up in their magic server box, i would have no idea how to debug this - sorry, but i hope these "hanging" URLs can shed some light on the matter... My DNN installs would be nearly perfect then ! :)

I just done a test on one of my own DNN sites and got an 18 second page load, followed by a 2.4 second page load after that... mmm i've got to do something about these page load times.. anyway, thats for another thread.

Cheers,
