Hello:

I have a custom dnn module that will not work on my web hosted site in ASP.NET 2.  Since it does work on my local machine, which really doesn't have any policy restrictions by default, I wasn't aware until I tried to add this module to a DNN test page.  The relevant part of the error message is:
The action that failed was: LinkDemand The type of the first permission that failed was: System.Security.PermissionSet The Zone of the assembly that failed was: MyComputer

There is some File I/O and it uses reflection.  I cannot think of a way around this since the settings I have control over in the web.config file, are subject to the policies on the shared servers (for obvious reasons...).  I am just as interested in knowing if there were changes to the level of "Trust" from .NET v1.x to .NET 2.0, or if this may vary from hosing provider to hosting provider.  I use CrystalTech and they are explicit in the lack of support for reflectiion in .NET 2 unless I wish to move my site to a less secure area.

Thanks for your insights!

John

No, there were no changes to the default trust level settings between asp.net 1.1 and 2.0. However most hosts running 2.0 now run as medium trust, as it's safer. Previously they didn't as medium trust in 1.1 did not support OLEDB data providers such as MS Access, which they needed to provide to their customers. You may find a hosting provider that runs 2.0 and allows reflection, but you would be less secure.
