I think this epitomizes why DotNetNuke has such a bad reputation.

I really don't get it - Why does the entire DNN core team consistently ignore common HTML standards and best practices? Do you just not care?

Block elements being put into inline elements for example.

The standard menu with its use of TABLES is another one.

Even the dotnetnuke.com site doesn't use its own menu solution, they use a Telerik RadMenu (for which there is no Provider inside the core... talk about fragmentation)

I fixed this by completely ditching the NavigationProvider concept. I created a custom SkinObject which renders a normal unordered list, works great with superfish.

As an addendum:

DNN is just a half-baked solution. There's no vision or leadership. Clueless VB.NET programmers now trying to adopt C#, as if C# suddenly will make them great. (Seriously, who'd code VB for a living? A great programmer? LOL).

  • There's a Content Type / Item / Metadata system. What for? You rushed it out and now what is it being used for? Nothing.
  • There's an excellent file manager provided by Telerik. It's used inside the RadEditor. All while the standard file manager still is the same as always.
  • Most Settings pages and administration modules are incredibly cluttered. Tables and inline styles galore. Again, where is the excellency in the front end code (html/css)? This is a Web CMS, this should be one of your CORE STRENGTHS.
  • Documentation. Have you ever had a look at the documentation and accessibility  of projects such as django? In the meantime DotNetNuke uses a 1200 paged outdated PDF and an API help file of zero value.

There's no way for outsiders to contribute anything of value. Most core modules are in programming limbo. If you report a bug on Gemini you are being told the bug doesn't exist and suddenly, 6 months later, there is a fix for it.

For those of you who have had problems with DNN having the JS render changes, have you tried using the DownLevel property, instead of UnorderedList for the custom attributes on the DNNMenu? That, I believe, will force it to always only render the HTML and not use JS.

I used the "forcedownlevel" and it seems to be rendering correctly. However, it is not getting any of the inherited styles the menu is supposed to get (.sel is the one I'm concerned about). Is there a way to resolve this?
