Hello,

I'm migrating a client's DNN 5.1.2 site from their current self-host to a server in a datacenter. I've never used DNN before so I've relied on the community for general guidance so far. What I've done is:

  • Zip their file content (general DNN files and portal content) and transfer to the new box.
  • Backup the DNN database and restore it on the new box.
  • Configure IIS to point at the root of the unzipped file content (which is in the same path as it was on the old box)
  • Update filesystem permissions to allow full ownership of the file content by the account IIS is using.
  • Verify the database logins were preserved, and update the web.config connection string as needed.
  • Update the portalAlias table to reflect the site's new home.

After this, I expected the site would run, but when opened in IE, I get a general "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error. Through some http monitoring on the box, it appears that the page IE is not showing me includes an error message "Thread is being aborted."

I've done profiling with SQL Server and can tell that DNN is connecting to the database and issuing commands. In particular, the app typically gets as far as executing the GetTabModules stored procedure with TabID 36 (the login page, which is the first one loaded on the client site), but then stops executing.

Has anyone out there seen this problem before? I'm reasonably new to DNN so I don't quite know where to turn at this point.

Thanks in advance!
