 Hi,

I've been trying to do a fresh install of DNN and keep hitting the same wall.

When I get to the Run Database Installation Scripts page on the Installation Wizard the page just loads and loads forever and never finishes.

I'm on a Windows 7 machine with IIS7 .NET 3.5 and SQLServer Express 2008.

Other odd things of note: All graphics on the Installation wizard are broken. The Run Database Installation Scripts page has a javascript error: Uncaught ReferenceError: dnn is not defined.

Can anyone help?

I had this happen and after several futile attempts, discovered that the only way to get past the problem was to select "Auto" installation. I probably should have done some troubleshooting to find root cause since I have not encountered the same problem on different Win7 machines.

Ray, most likely this happens due to missing permissions. Did you follow Cathal's blog post (http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Blogs/tabid/825/EntryId/2420/Windows-7-Windows-2008-R2-cross-application-pool-isolation.aspx) regarding user account specifics?

This is why it is so much easier for me, sadly, to opt for Joomla or Wordpress as CMS; Installation is so much simpler and you dont have to rely on the webhoster to follow guides such as the one you point at.

I Joomla:

  1. Upload the files
  2. Start wizard and enter some db-info
  3. Done

In DNN:

  1. Upload the files
  2. (try to) start the wizard (always fails the first time for me)
  3. Enter some db-info
  4. Try to run the databasescripts. Fails. No errormsg so you basically dont know what failed.
  5. Swear a little
  6. Scrap DNN. Change the hosting server to linux and try again with Joomla

And I love Windows Server! I also seriously dislike PHP, but as DNN installation have always been a frustrating experience I have no choice.

Sorry. Letting out some steam here.

We get this issue every time we (or one of our clients) run the DNN installer.

We have thousands of sites running DNN on our systems so it's not a permissions issue.

The auto install works perfectly if the db settings are specified before hand.

I think there is a huge bug in the DNN installer that needs to be looked at.

We are using WebsitePanel and are trying to use the Web App Gallery for the install. As it doesn't pre-fill the db info, the users have to use the wizard and it fails every time.
