Paul, I tried out what you said for the second solution... Added a Select PreClaimID from Table where PreclaimID = @PreclaimID at the bottom of the Proc, then changed my sqldataprovider to an IDataReader. I am still getting a 0 as my result. I did some testing and ran the Sql Server Profiler while doing an insert this new way, as well as the way using the ExecuteScalar, the return value never showed up in the profiler. Just all of the values I inserted. I havnt used the Profiler often, am I correct in assuming that return Values should show up in there? I may just go back to the original way I did this where it worked first try =/

Chirs,

You should be getting the results of the record added... in the record added you should find the value of the new claim id.  No need to look a the return value.

The return value of the stored procedure should be in the profiler results.  You should be able to run the stored procedure from the Management Studio and see the return value being displayed along with the selected record.

Paul.

Paul,

Thanks for your insight on this subject. I think for now I am going to leave it working as my original function in the few cases where I will need an output parameter. Maybe later in the future when I am tweaking to improve things I will try to get this working!

Thanks again,

Chris
