Agreed, there seems to be no reliable and up-to-date information anywhere on how to configure DNN 5+ to run in a web farm.  I'm currently running 05.03.01 (7).  I have enabled both of the servers in the WebServers table.  When I look at schedules, it has both servers listed for running schedules, but my IsWebFarm option is unchecked.  Furthermore, I have no BroadcastPollingCachingProvider sql script as mentioned in the docs.

Broadcast polling provider has been removed due to issues. There is no replacement included with DNN Community Edition, but there are 3rd party vendors like powerdnn providing advanced solutions for this use case.

So, DotNetNuke does not provide WebFarm support when the individual servers are each hosting application content?

If I put the content from a UNC share for the nodes to access, does that work?

Does this mean we have to use DNN PE to get web farm support?

 Hi Jay,

If you want to run DotNetNuke in a webfarm, you will need to either upgrade to DotNetNuke PE or explore a third-party provider such as our PowerCache technology.  With PowerCache, you can scale your webfarm up to 60 webservers.
