We are on DNN 5.3.1 / Windows Server 2003, SQL Server 2005

After upgrading to DNN 5.3.1 we get the following error:

Note: another vendors module was having a similar problem (same method not found) and they have indicated a change occured in DNN 5.3.1 and that the vendor will release a patch to account for this change..

Can anyone explain what has happened to the 'System.String DotNetNuke.Common.Globals.SendNotification method?

That method and its various overloads was made obsolete way back in DNN 3.x and replaced by methods in the class DotNetNuke.Services.Mail.Mail.

Since most of the DotNetNuke.Services.Mail.Mail.SendMail methods have themselves been marked obsolete in DotNetNuke 5.3.0 and replaced by methods in the new DotNetNuke.Services.Messaging.MessagingController class, the DotNetNuke.Common.Globals methods relating to sending notifications/mail were finally removed from code.

Was this listed anywhere as a breaking change?

Usually you do not remove them..  as marking obsolete you should give a warning for a build.  Not sure what was done as I'm sure errors are coming from 3rd party modules.

FYI - I found this post from my error message listed by Michael above. My problem was a module called Orizonti NukeFeeds. After I deleted it the upgrade went well. I had version 1.3 and supposedly their latest 1.6 would fix this but I have not tried that. BTW I also received another error as outlined here: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/107/threadid/315346/scope/posts/Default.aspx and had to delete a module where there were 2 with the same friendly name. thanks, Will

Obsolete methods will be removed after a couple of versions, they are marked as obsolete to get the core code cleaned up in the future. Usually, this happens about a major version later.
